Cats for Adoption

thumbcats-740x270

Cats pictured are in foster care, placed through the Coffee County Humane Society. Adult cats are fully vetted, tested for Feline Leukemia / Feline AIDS (FIV), spayed or neutered and up to date on shots. If a kitten is too young or too small at the time of adoption, adoptive families must agree to spay or neuter the kitten at the appropriate time. This is a requirement of the CCHS adoptive process.

Most cats are a lot cuter than their pictures, cats tend to be camera shy. Please call (931)728-0903 to see if a specific kitty is still available. CCHS strives to keep the listing updated but a cat may have already been adopted.  There are usually other cats, especially kittens, who are not yet pictured online.

UPDATE: (warning-graphic)

After removing some caked-on mud and seeing signs of trouble, we brought this kitten to Hackett's Animal Clinic for a more thorough exam. During this exam, a low body temp was noted and sores and maggots were discovered all over its lower belly, hindquarters, and in its ears.

The vet couldn't even say whether this little kitty was a boy or girl due to the damage done by exposure to the elements and maggots. Because of its young age at less than one week old, normal protocols for the infestation weren't an option. With heavy hearts and some tears, we decided to prevent further suffering and let this little one go.

We thank all of those who volunteered to help and want to emphasize again that the best way to prevent these situations is for us to work together to get as many cats spayed/neutered as possible. We can't save them all, but we can prevent much needless suffering if there are less kitties out there having litters. Please help us get this message out by informing a friend or family member who may not be aware. Thank you.
